New Jersey Flooring Adds Value

Adding value to a home is relatively easy with New Jersey flooring. There are so many styles and prices to choose from that there is sure to be something to suit every buyer and budget. At the higher end of the price range are the solid hardwoods. These not only look beautiful but will last for many years. In fact, oak floors can last anywhere from seventy five to one hundred years or more.

Many people like to save themselves some money by doing their own installation. This is a relatively straight forward project that just needs some time and care. Many people take a class at their local DIY store and read a few books. All of these can be very helpful and give them the knowledge and confidence they need to get started.

High traffic areas such as living rooms will need one of the stronger and more durable types of carpet. A visit to the local store is the best way to check out the options. The experienced sales people will offer advice and can really help the customers to decide which is the best type of carpet for each room in their home.

Once everything has been removed it is crucial to make sure the sub floor is completely level. Tile cannot be installed over an uneven base as it will result in loose tiles and cracking very quickly. If necessary a thin layer of fast drying cement may need to be poured over the floor and leveled off. This is the best way to create a nice even base for the application of tile.

Engineered hardwoods are an interesting combination of products. A thin layer of real wood is fixed to a laminate sub floor base. This gives the look and feel of real wood at a fraction of the cost. They are often used over radiant in floor heating systems as they are easy to glue to the concrete base. Engineered hardwoods are an excellent choice as they last for many years and look great.

Because hard woods can be quite expensive it is usually a good idea to have them professionally installed. Many people do not realize that the boards must be removed from the boxes and allowed to sit in the room for at least 2 days prior to the installation.

Most homes have at least a few rooms that are tiled. Tile is such a versatile material that can be used everywhere from the kitchen to the basement. High traffic areas such as an entry way are perfect for tile. It is easy to keep clean, looks good and will last for many years.

Laminate floors are now becoming more popular. They provide a low cost alternative to real wood. Laminates are available in many shades. The lighter colors are typically more popular as they give any room a light and airy feeling. In addition practically any paint colors will coordinate with them nicely.
