If you haven't come across gabions until now you're not alone, however you will have almost certainly have seen them even if you didn't realise it at the time. The very fact that they can be stacked on one top of the other and will resist being washed away by the sea, means they are the ideal selection for preserving the coastline and preventing the erosion of coastal slopes.

The gabion basket is usually loaded with soil or sand to really make it a stable and fortifying section of the retaining wall or wherever it is being used. These baskets may also be fabricated to be used within the home or garden.
