Many Applications Of Decorative Concrete

By Troy Wilkerson

When decorative concrete is used to mimic the more expensive marble or flagstone, it gives the appearance of the higher priced material without costing as much. It may be stained, colored, stamped or polished. Each finish is practical when it comes to maintenance.

Stamped and textured, it is going to look exactly like bricks, tiles, flagstone or even wood. The driveway or patio will have a distinctive appearance. Color can be used as well. It can match or complement the color on the siding or the roof.

When a small area is given one of these custom finishes, it can provide a wonderful contrast to the larger area it enhances. The narrow border of simulated brick looks fantastic around any flower garden or along the side of any walkway. Color it to match or complement each adjoining area. Sometimes a stark contrast is even more effective.

This look is great for the backyard patio too. Any shape patio can be bordered with a narrow strip of simulated bricks. The same pattern can border any flower garden, or an entire garden path. Matching and accenting in these ways can make any yard beautiful.

On the inside of the house the uses are endless. Surrounding a fireplace it is attractive in fieldstone or brick in a neutral color. The floor can be simulated marble or even wood. Use it for flooring in a bathroom to look like tile with a matching countertop on the vanity. Any basement or garage floor can be attractive as well as practical and durable.

In addition to the floor it can be used for countertops in the kitchen. The area surrounding a fireplace is capable of being designed in fancy decorative concrete in the color and pattern the homeowner wants. Again, the cost is much lower than for the brick or marble that it resembles.
