The Truth About Modicon Contraceptives

By Krystal Branch

The Modicon contraceptive pill has been described as a generic means of birth control. Being generic can make it more affordable for the user and in some ways may speak to its effectiveness. Most generics are mirror images of the name brand drug they replace with the differences being so minor that the doctors rarely mention them.

There is a mountain of information that your doctor will share with you if you are considering this method of birth control and some that you must share with your doctor. You will be advised of the side effects and told that there is a possibility it will not be strong enough to protect you from pregnancy.

You will be asked to supply him with a complete list of any and all medicines you are taking at the time you see him. He will advise you regarding any that may interfere or cause unwanted side effects and what to do to avoid them. This list must also include any over the counter medicines or vitamins you may be taking. Some herbal capsules you take can weaken the effectiveness of the medication.

You may be denied this medication if you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or thyroid problems. Another thing that can prevent you from getting a prescription is if you are overweight or diabetic. One of the first questions you will be asked is if you smoke and your age. Smoking and being over thirty five years old may prevent the doctor from giving you this medicine. There are other conditions that will affect your ability to successfully use this drug and your medical advisor can advise you about all other risks.

When you use this drug it will stop your body from ovulating by using female hormones and a chemical mixture in combination. There will be other changes in the cervix and uterus and these changes will slow the sperm on its way to the uterus and stop any fertilized egg from reaching it. This combination of actions work to keep you from becoming pregnant.

When a dose is missed there are certain procedures you must carefully follow. One or two missed pills can allow you to become pregnant so most doctors will advise you to use a backup method should you decide to engage in sexual intercourse. With this medication it is advised to throw away the rest of the package you are using and start a new twenty eight day cycle of them.

You may experience break through bleeding for the first few months when you are taking this medication. This is fairly normal but if it continues for an extended period or becomes heavy be sure to let the doctor know about it. The most common side effect is vomiting and perhaps this happens because the pill is telling your body that it is pregnant.

The Modicon contraceptive system has a history of successfully preventing pregnancies that dates back to their beginnings as a method of birth control. They are as effective as any name brand preventative available to the public. For many women the benefits of the birth control pill far outweigh the risks that they may be taking. As with all contraceptive methods they will not protect you from STDs or HIV infections. For protection from these ailments only condoms are a fool proof method of prevention.
