Fredericksburg: Moving To This Historic Texas Town

Texas continues to be one of the fastest growing states in the nation, and while many people flock to larger metropolitan areas, many people prefer to settle in a smaller, more charming community such as Fredericksburg. This picturesque, historic town is located in one of the most scenic areas of the state, Texas Hill Country. While Fredericksburg is definitely a small town, with just over 10,500 inhabitants, this hamlet is quite close to two of the state's most popular cities - Austin and San Antonio. The state capitol of Austin is about 68 miles away from Fredericksburg, while San Antonio is very slightly closer, just about 63 miles down the road.

If you aren't a huge fan of cold weather and snow, you will be pleased to note that the temperature rarely dips below freezing in this part of the state, which is known as Texas Hill Country. Winter temperatures typically range from highs of about 65 degrees with lows in the high 30s. Summers can be quite hot, with the highest temperatures in July and August.

Fredericksburg is a popular spot for tourism, and thousands of travelers come here every year to visits the historic district, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. There are more than one dozen wineries that one can visit, as well as a brewery which offers tours and even a distillery that produces award-winning whiskey. There are several prominent festivals or events that take place during the year, such as Oktoberfest, which celebrates the town's rich German history.

If you love history, particularly military history, there are several local options for you to enjoy. Fort Martin Scott Historic Site is run by the city of Fredericksburg, and tours are available every day except for Monday. Chester W. Nimitz was a Fredericksburg native son who eventually led the entire Pacific Fleet in battle during World War II. The Admiral Nimitz Museum is located in Fredericksburg inside the National Museum of the Pacific War.
